Cognitive Nutrient Therapy
Our Mission
At Cognitive Nutrient Therapy, we integrate allopathic, naturopathic, and functional medicine to bring the benefits of advanced individualized biochemical therapy to patients challenged by behavioral disorders. This includes individuals affected by anxiety, depression, post-partum depression, ADHD, ADD, bipolar disorder, OCD, and spectrum disorders, who are seeking a more holistic and drug-free approach.

Our practice integrates specialized micro-nutrient therapy alongside complementary and alternative options, while respecting the expertise of mental health professionals. The emphasis is on personalized treatment plans, for each patient's individual needs, promoting collaboration and integration for a comprehensive and effective treatment experience.
Cognitive Nutrient Therapy
Approach
Our approach involves a complete history, biochemical assessment, and determination of possible methylation disorders, an individual’s copper and zinc metabolism, overproduction of pyrroles, the role of homocysteine and histamine, a variety of other functional medicine assessments and the genetic variances that could be influencing all the above.

Our goal is to develop an individualized treatment plan aimed at normalizing brain chemistry thus improving behavioral and mental disorders. This drug-free alternative is based mostly on the Walsh Protocol which involves Advanced Nutrient Therapy.

Cognitive Nutrient Therapy
An Introduction to Walsh Protocol
Over the past few decades, the primary means to treat behavioral and mental disorders has predominantly centered around addressing imbalanced brain chemistry through pharmaceuticals by targeting serotonin, dopamine, and other common neurotransmitters.in conjunction with behavioral/talk therapy.
While proving successful in benefiting people diagnosed with mental health and behavioral conditions, the focus had been on symptom management and behavioral interventions. The gap in understanding WHY an individual might not be producing sufficient neurotransmitters naturally, or have not responded to medication has been consistently overlooked until recently.
The production of neurotransmitters are synthesized from NUTRIENTS—such as amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and other natural compounds. As part of our protocol, we use advanced nutrient therapy. This involves the supplementation of therapeutic doses of these vitamins, minerals, and amino acids.
The benefits to this alternative approach include:

-
An alternative method for correcting imbalances in neurotransmitter activity
-
Use of natural substances rather than pharmaceuticals
-
Reduction of accompanying side effects from medications
-
This protocol can be used in combination with existing medications
As neuroscience progresses with advancements in the understanding of brain chemistry, there is great potential for nutrient therapy to gradually replace psychiatric drugs as the preferred treatment for mental illness and behavioral disorders.

How it started..

After a decade of professional collaboration Dr. Melanie Mintzer and Naturopath Amber Self decided to establish Cognitive Nutrient Therapy (CNT). There was a shared recognition in the value of merging their expertise to offer the Walsh Method; a holistic and integrative drug-free approach designed for addressing the root cause of mental health & behavioral disorders.

Dr. Mintzer has been immersed with the Walsh method for over a decade and achieved certification as a Certified Walsh Practitioner in 2016. Shortly after, Amber delved into the application of Walsh protocols along with holistic support strategies.
